{"id":434,"date":"2026-06-26T11:40:51","date_gmt":"2026-06-26T15:40:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/akctrackingjudges.akc.org\/?p=434"},"modified":"2026-06-26T11:40:51","modified_gmt":"2026-06-26T15:40:51","slug":"disqualification-by-judge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/akctrackingjudges.akc.org\/index.php\/2026\/06\/26\/disqualification-by-judge\/","title":{"rendered":"Disqualification by Judge"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tracking Judges must understand the difference between a Judge\u2019s Excusal and Judge\u2019s Disqualification to make the correct choice when confronted with an unusual situation with an exhibiting dog.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reasons for a Judge to Disqualify a dog:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Blind<\/strong> \u2013 a dog without useful vision<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Change by artificial means<\/strong> \u2013 a dog that has been surgically\/permanently altered (dyed, taped, or bandaged dogs are excused by the judge, not disqualified)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Attacks or Attempts to Attack a PERSON<\/strong> on the Tracking Field<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Judge\u2019s Procedure for Disqualification resulting from Attack or Attempts to Attack a Person:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Remain calm and in control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Stop Judging and take care of injured person if necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Request that the handler move the dog off to the side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Inform the handler that the dog has been \u201cDisqualified by Judge\u201d and state reason.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Inform the handler that the dog is no longer eligible to show in any AKC event until reinstated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Fill out the \u201cDisqualification by Judge\/Evaluator for Attacking a Person\u201d form.*<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Mark Judges\u2019 Book \u201cDisqualified\u201d and state reason.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Detach pink copy to give to exhibitor, Judge keeps yellow copy, include the white copy in the Tracking Secretary Report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Resume judging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>*AKC sends each Tracking Test giving club a full test \u201ckit\u201d <strong><em>once each year<\/em><\/strong>. The \u201ckit\u201d includes all the forms required to be available at each tracking test. After an event, the secretary should replace all used forms and then pass on the complete test \u201ckit\u201d to the next test secretary.
